Fiat 500 diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure issue
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Fiat 500 diesel is experiencing a warning light, power loss, excessive smoke, and a strong exhaust smell. The garage identified low diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure, possibly due to a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing a faulty sensor, suggesting that consulting a specialist for proper diagnosis and potential sensor replacement could be a cost-effective solution.

Was it the diesel particulate filter itself, or could it be something else causing the low pressure reading? Do you mean it was clogged, or actually damaged? What was the smell like when you had the issue?

In my case, the filter was ok. It turned out to be a faulty sensor causing all the problems. I'd take it to a proper mechanic. A sensor could be an easy fix, but they'll be able to properly diagnose the problem.

I appreciate the insight. Looks like it's off to a specialist then. Hopefully, it's just the sensor and I can get back on the road without breaking the bank!

I had a similar issue with my old Vauxhall Astra. Warning light, loss of power, the whole shebang. They also mentioned something about exhaust pressure.
