Fiat 500 Electric Steering Column Fault

I've got a head-scratcher with my 2023 electric Fiat 500. The steering column adjustment is totally borked! I'm getting an error stored in the memory, and the column refuses to adjust electrically. Mileage is sitting at 93489 km. Before I start ripping things apart, has anyone seen this? Feels like a bad cable or plug connection to the adjustment motor itself.

Summary of the thread

The 2023 electric Fiat 500 has a steering column adjustment issue, with an error stored in memory and no electrical adjustment possible. The problem is suspected to be a bad cable or plug connection to the adjustment motor. After checking the fuses and finding them intact, the issue was resolved by a workshop, which identified and fixed a loose plug connection on the column motor.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

That's a bummer! Electric steering gremlins are never fun. I've seen similar on other vehicles, especially with that mileage. You're probably right about the cable or plug. Have you checked the fuses related to the steering column? Sometimes it's just a simple blown fuse causing the issue. Also, can you hear any sound at all when you try to adjust the column, like the motor trying to whir?

Good shout on the fuses, hadn't thought of that. I'll give them a peek. And no, not a peep from the motor when I try adjusting it, completely silent. Where exactly are the fuses located for the steering column? Don't want to start pulling them all out randomly!

Okay, silent motor is telling. If the fuses are good, then yeah, definitely points to a connection issue or the motor itself. As for the fuse location, check your owner's manual, should have a diagram. Typically, there's a fuse box under the dash and possibly another in the engine bay. Honestly, with it being silent and electrical, and you've checked fuses, it's probably best to get it looked at by a workshop. Could save you chasing ghosts.

Cheers for the advice! Fuses were all good, so I booked it into a workshop. You were spot on - turned out to be a loose plug connection on the column motor. They re-seated it and charged me 95€. Sorted!
