Fiat 500 engine stalling idling
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Fiat 500 is experiencing engine stalling when idling, a check engine light, and a drop in power. The issue might be related to the fuel system, specifically a defective fuel volume regulator or a faulty high-pressure pump. It is advised to have the vehicle checked by a professional to diagnose and resolve the problem, as similar symptoms were resolved by addressing these components.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any strange noises, and starting the car is usually fine, except that one time it took longer than usual. But the stalling at idle and the check engine light are pretty consistent. What exactly was the fuel system issue with your car? Was it a costly fix?

For me, the workshop diagnosed it as a defective fuel volume regulator, caused by a faulty high-pressure pump. The symptoms were almost identical to what you described, so it does sound like a possibility. It wasn't cheap, I'm afraid, and I'd recommend getting it checked by a professional. Given the symptoms, better not drive it more than necessary.

Thanks, that's really helpful. Sounds like I'm heading to the workshop then. I'll mention the fuel volume regulator and high-pressure pump when I book it in. Just got the car back, the bill was 1510€ to get it all fixed. Hopefully, that's the end of it now.

Hey, I also have a Fiat 500, though I am not sure from which year. I had similar symptoms a while back – check engine light, rough idle, and a noticeable decrease in fuel economy. It turned out to be related to the fuel system. Did you notice any unusual sounds coming from the engine, or any difficulty starting the car?
