Fiat Croma water sensor fault

I'm having a weird issue with my 2005 Fiat Croma diesel. The check engine light keeps popping on, and the error memory is showing a fault with the water sensor. Engine runs rough too. I've checked the obvious stuff – wiring, connections, etc. – but can't find anything concrete. Mileage is 178777 km. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Fiat Croma diesel exhibited a check engine light and rough engine performance, with an error indicating a water sensor fault. Initial checks of wiring and connections revealed no issues. A suggestion was made to inspect the sensor plug for corrosion or looseness, as these are common problems. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by addressing a defective cable/plug connection to the water sensor, which was fixed at a workshop.

I had something similar with my Croma. Check the sensor plug itself. Those things are notorious for getting corroded or loose. Could be an electrical fault.

Thanks! Where exactly is the water sensor plug located? And did yours throw the same symptoms – check engine light and rough running?

Yeah, same symptoms. The plug is near the fuel filter. Honestly, though, I’d just take it to a workshop and get them to diagnose it properly. Could save you a headache.

Appreciate the help. Ended up being a defective cable/plug connection to the water sensor, just like you said. Workshop sorted it for 95€. Thanks again!
