Fiat Cronos air intake leak

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2021 Fiat Cronos, gasoline engine, at 142760 km. I suspect an air intake system leak. Symptoms include higher fuel consumption, check engine light, and a loud hissing noise during acceleration. I've inspected the visible sections, focusing on the throttle body and vacuum hose connections, but haven't pinpointed the leak. Could it be related to the intake manifold or even the turbocharger system? Any insights?

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2021 Fiat Cronos involved symptoms of higher fuel consumption, a check engine light, and a loud hissing noise, suggesting an air intake system leak. Initial inspections focused on the throttle body and vacuum hose connections, but the problem was not immediately identified. A suggestion to inspect the main intake hose from the air filter box to the throttle body revealed a significant split. Replacing this hose resolved the symptoms, restoring normal fuel economy and eliminating the check engine light and hissing noise.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had something similar with my Cronos. Those symptoms definitely point to an intake leak. Did you check the intake hose itself? I had a split in mine that was hard to spot until I really flexed it.

Thanks for the quick reply. When you say 'intake hose,' are you referring to the main hose running from the air filter box to the throttle body, or are there other smaller hoses within the system that I should be inspecting more closely?

Yeah, the main one from the air filter. Look closely for cracks, especially on the underside where it rubs against stuff. If that's it, it’s a quick fix, but honestly, after chasing vacuum leaks before, I'd take it to a shop to be sure. Could save you some headache.

Appreciate the advice. I investigated the intake hose more thoroughly, as you suggested, and discovered a significant split. Replaced the hose at a cost of approximately 100€, and the symptoms have resolved. Fuel economy is back to normal, the check engine light is off, and the hissing sound is gone. Thank you again!
