Fiat Cronos Fuel Pump Issue

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2023 Fiat Cronos, gasoline engine. It has 104033 km. Lately, the engine is hard to start, and stalled a couple times while idling. The check engine light is on. The engine runs rough, and fuel consumption seems higher. An OBD2 reader shows a stored error. Could this be the fuel pump?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Fiat Cronos with a gasoline engine is experiencing hard starting, stalling, rough running, and increased fuel consumption, with the check engine light on. These symptoms suggest a potential fuel pump issue, but other causes like a faulty fuel filter, pressure regulator, or sensor could also be responsible. An error code indicates a problem in the fuel pump circuit. It's advised to inspect the wiring and connections to the fuel pump, but ultimately, consulting a qualified technician is recommended for accurate diagnosis and repair. The issue was resolved by fixing a defective plug connection, avoiding unnecessary expenses.

It sounds like a fuel delivery issue, but several things could be at play. The symptoms you describe are consistent with a failing fuel pump. But rule out other potential causes first. Has the error code been checked and what does it say? A faulty fuel filter, a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator, or even a bad sensor could mimic those symptoms. Before replacing the pump, inspect the wiring and connections to the fuel pump. A loose or corroded connector can interrupt the power supply and cause intermittent problems.

Thanks for the detailed answer. The error code indicates a problem within the fuel pump circuit, but I'm not sure how to inspect the wiring. Could you give me specific directions?

Given that the error code points to the fuel pump circuit, and you've experienced multiple symptoms, a defective fuel pump is highly probable. Considering the risk of misdiagnosis and potential damage to other components, I strongly suggest consulting a qualified technician. Trying to self-diagnose and fix the issue, without proper experience, might lead to additional expenses. They can perform a proper diagnosis, check the fuel pressure, inspect the wiring thoroughly, and confirm whether the fuel pump is indeed the culprit. If you are lucky it is just the cable or plug connection and the repair cost should be around 95€.

Thanks a lot. I understand and took it to a workshop. It was just a defective plug connection as you mentioned. Saved me a lot of money. I appreciate your time and expertise.
