Fiat Doblo Jerking Hissing Stalling

Hi, I've got a 2016 Fiat Doblo with a gasoline engine that's giving me some headaches. It's got about 119k km on the clock. The check engine light is on, and when I try to accelerate, it feels like the car is jerking. Plus, I'm hearing a weird whistling and loud hissing sound when I put my foot down. Sometimes it even stalls when idling. Fuel consumption has gone up, and the engine definitely feels like it's lost some power. Could this be a boost pressure sensor issue? I checked the air intake, and I think the cable or plug connection might be defective. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Fiat Doblo is experiencing jerking, hissing sounds, stalling, increased fuel consumption, and power loss, with the check engine light on. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the boost pressure sensor or a boost leak in the turbo system. Possible causes include defective cable or plug connections, cracks, or looseness in the hoses around the turbocharger. A thorough inspection, possibly including a smoke test at a workshop, is recommended to identify and resolve the issue.

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Doblo, although it's a bit older. That jerking and hissing definitely points to a boost leak somewhere in the turbo system. The whistling could be related too. Have you checked all the hoses and connections around the turbocharger for any cracks or looseness? A bad connection at the boost pressure sensor could definitely cause those symptoms and trigger the engine light. Does it feel like a sudden loss of power?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, the power loss is pretty noticeable, especially when going uphill. I did a quick visual check of the hoses, but I didn't see anything obvious. What exactly should I be looking for in terms of 'cracks or looseness'? Is there a specific area around the turbocharger where these leaks are common?

Alright, the power loss confirms my suspicion. When I say cracks, I mean tiny splits in the rubber hoses – sometimes they're hard to spot. Looseness means the clamps holding the hoses onto the turbo or intercooler might not be tight enough. It's worth double-checking all those clamps. Honestly, with those symptoms, especially the stalling, it might be best to get it to a workshop. A proper smoke test can pinpoint the exact location of the leak. It could save you a lot of time and frustration. For me, the boost pressure sensor replacement plus checking the cables and plugs cost about 95€. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your help and sharing your experience! I think you're right; I'll take it to a workshop and have them do a proper check of the turbo system and the boost pressure sensor. Hopefully, it's just a loose connection or a simple fix. Will post here again when I have some news!
