Fiat Ducato VANOS issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Fiat Ducato with 237,267 km was experiencing rough running, a check engine light, and increased fuel consumption, with a fault code indicating an inlet VANOS issue. The suspected cause was a faulty camshaft solenoid valve, possibly due to a lack of power. After consulting with others and visiting a workshop, it was confirmed that a faulty camshaft solenoid valve was the issue. Replacing the valve resolved the problem, turning off the check engine light and normalizing fuel consumption.

Yeah, that's exactly it! Hesitation on acceleration describes it perfectly. What was the fix for yours? Was it the solenoid valve itself, or something else entirely?

I'm no expert, but in my experience, VANOS problems can be tricky to diagnose without proper equipment. If the problem persists I would suggest visiting a trusted workshop instead of starting to replace parts at random.

Thanks. After some thinking, I took your advice and brought the Ducato to the workshop. Turns out one of the camshaft solenoid valves was indeed faulty. They replaced it, and the check engine light is now off and the fuel consumption is back to normal. Total damage: 250€.

Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen on my Ducato. Is it struggling on acceleration, almost like it's hesitating? Could be a VANOS issue, like you suspect.
