Fiat Fullback Fuel Pressure Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Fiat Fullback diesel experienced stalling at idle and reduced power after a fuel filter change, leading to a check engine light. The issue was suspected to be caused by air introduced into the fuel system due to not priming the filter, potentially affecting the fuel pressure regulator. It was advised to have the vehicle diagnosed professionally, which confirmed a defective fuel pressure regulator. After replacement, the vehicle's performance returned to normal.

Thanks for the quick reply. No, I didn't prime the fuel filter before installation. Could the air in the system cause the fuel pressure regulator to fail, or is the pressure sensor simply providing inaccurate readings because of the air?

It's possible the air bubble messed with the regulator's ability to properly control the fuel pressure, causing it to throw an error code. While it could be just a sensor issue, the symptoms point to the regulator being the main culprit. Honestly, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed. They'll have the right tools to check the fuel pressure and pinpoint the problem.

Thanks for the guidance. I took the Fullback to a workshop. The fuel pressure regulator was defective, plausibly caused by the unprimed fuel filter. The error code was cleared, and the regulator replaced. The entire process, including the part, cost about 45€. The truck now runs smoothly again.

Sounds like you might have introduced some air into the fuel system when you changed the fuel filter. The ECU is probably seeing inconsistent readings from the fuel rail pressure sensor, hence the check engine light and the rough idle/power loss. Did you prime the new filter before installing it?
