Fiat Idea Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Fiat Idea with a diesel engine is experiencing overheating issues despite the coolant level being fine, and the check engine light is on. The initial suspicion is that the radiator fan isn't working, possibly due to a faulty speed sensor. Suggestions include checking the thermal switch, fan resistor, and fan motor. Ultimately, the problem is identified as a defective speed sensor, which is resolved at a workshop.

No weird fan noises that I've noticed, but I'll definitely give the fan resistor a look. Where is the thermal switch located exactly? I want to rule out all the options before looking at the speed sensor.

The thermal switch sits near the thermostat, usually on the cylinder head or near a coolant hose. Seriously, I spent ages troubleshooting mine and it turned out that only the fan motor was defective. Save yourself some time and take it to a workshop.

You've convinced me. I dropped it off at the shop today, and you were spot on - defective speed sensor. 250€ later and she's running cool. Thanks for the advice.

Sounds familiar. I've got an Idea too (petrol, though), and had similar overheating issues last year. Check your thermal switch as well, but mostly check the fan resistor. Is the fan making any weird noises beforehand?
