Fiat Linea Diesel Particulate Filter Issue
Summary of the thread
The 2014 Fiat Linea diesel exhibited a warning light, reduced power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, with diagnostics indicating low DPF exhaust pressure. These symptoms suggested a potential issue with the exhaust back pressure sensor. The problem was exacerbated by frequent short trips, which hindered proper DPF regeneration. A workshop confirmed the sensor was defective, and replacing it along with a forced DPF regeneration resolved the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't seen fuel consumption changes or unusual engine noises beyond the initial symptoms. The car is mainly used for short trips. Considering this, is a malfunctioning exhaust back pressure sensor still the most likely cause, or could the short trips be a bigger factor?

Ah, the short trips are definitely making it worse! While a faulty sensor could be the cause, frequent short runs prevent the DPF from regenerating properly. The sensor might be faulty, OR it could just be clogged from insufficient regeneration. I'd advise a visit to a qualified workshop. They can diagnose the sensor and potentially force DPF regeneration. Continuing to drive it like this could cause further damage. Better safe than sorry, eh?

Thanks for the insights. I consulted a workshop. They confirmed the exhaust back pressure sensor was defective. Replacing it and a forced DPF regeneration fixed the issue. The total cost was 245€.

Those symptoms are concerning! A warning light with reduced power and smoke is never good. Low DPF exhaust pressure points to an exhaust issue, and a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor is a suspect. Have you noticed fuel consumption changes or unusual engine noises? Has the car been used for short trips, as this can affect DPF regeneration?
