Fiat Marea check engine light and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Fiat Marea is experiencing a check engine light, stalling at idle, and reduced engine power. The initial suggestion is a potential issue with the fuel volume regulator, which affects the fuel-air mixture. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional workshop, which confirmed a defective fuel volume regulator and high pressure pump as the cause.

Fuel volume regulator, huh? Where is that located, and is it easy to check? I have not checked the fuel economy, but it feels like I'm visiting the gas station more often. Is this a complicated fix?

The fuel volume regulator is usually attached to the high pressure fuel pump. Honestly, it's not a simple check unless you have the right tools and know-how. Given the symptoms, especially the reduced power and stalling, and the likely expensive repair cost of a defective high pressure pump, I'd suggest taking it to a trusted workshop to get it properly diagnosed. Could save you money in the long run.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was a defective fuel volume regulator, likely due to a defective high pressure pump. Repair cost is 1510€. Appreciate the help diagnosing the problem!

That sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Marea. The check engine light, stalling, and loss of power... It could be the fuel volume regulator. When that goes bad, it messes with the fuel-air mixture the engine needs, especially at lower speeds. Have you noticed any change in your fuel economy?
