Fiat Novo exhaust back pressure sensor issue

I've got a 2017 Fiat Novo, gasoline engine, with about 113k km on it. Recently, a warning light popped up and I've noticed some smoke when accelerating. I suspect it might be related to the exhaust back pressure sensor. Anyone experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Fiat Novo with 113,000 km is experiencing a warning light and smoke during acceleration, suspected to be linked to the exhaust back pressure sensor. The symptoms include sluggish engine performance, particularly when starting. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the faulty sensor. It is recommended to consult a mechanic for diagnostics, as the sensor likely needs replacement.

I encountered a comparable issue with my Opel Astra a few years ago. The symptoms manifested in a similar fashion – warning light and visible smoke. Considering your Fiat Novo's mileage and the symptoms described, a defective exhaust back pressure sensor appears to be a strong possibility. Have you observed any changes in engine performance beyond the warning light and smoke, such as rough idling or decreased fuel efficiency?

Thanks for the info! Besides the light and smoke, the engine seems a bit sluggish, especially when starting. Fuel consumption seems normal, though. Was the exhaust back pressure sensor the only thing causing the issue on your Opel?

Indeed, the defective exhaust back pressure sensor was the sole cause in my case. Given the symptoms you've described for your Fiat Novo—specifically the warning light, smoke upon acceleration, and diminished engine responsiveness during startups—I strongly advise consulting a qualified mechanic for comprehensive vehicle diagnostics. It is probable that the sensor is indeed faulty and requires replacement.

I appreciate the advice! I'll take it to the workshop to get it checked out. Sounds like it's probably the sensor. I'll post an update once it's sorted! It was the sensor! Cost me 245€ including labor. Thanks again!
