Fiat Panda Turbo Underboost After Chip Tuning
Summary of the thread
A 2015 Fiat Panda diesel experienced a significant reduction in engine power, with diagnostics indicating a turbo underboost condition (P0299 error code). The issue was linked to a third-party chip tuning solution installed two years prior, which interfered with the car's ECU. The suggested solution was to have the ECU checked and the original software re-flashed by a reputable workshop, which resolved the problem and restored the car's performance.

I had the chip tuning installed approximately two years ago. The specific diagnostic code currently flagged is P0299, indicating a turbo underboost condition. I find it peculiar because the turbocharger itself seems to be functioning within normal parameters upon visual inspection and during basic operational tests. Could this still be a consequence of the chip tuning, even after this duration?

P0299, right. Okay, so it definitely sounds like the chip tuning could be the culprit. The thing is, these aftermarket modifications can sometimes mess with the car's computer in unpredictable ways, even long after installation. In my case with the Astra, the tuning box was sending incorrect signals, which caused the car to run poorly. I would suggest taking it to a reputable workshop and having them check the ECU. They probably need to re-flash the original software.

I appreciate the advice. Based on your experiences and further consultation, it does indeed seem the chip tuning is the most probable cause. I took it to a workshop. They confirmed the faulty chip tuning and restored the original software. The repair cost amounted to 180€. The car is running smoothly again.

Interesting. I had a similar problem on my old Opel Astra, though it was a petrol engine. Check engine light was always on, and the car felt sluggish. A diagnostic check revealed some obscure fault code related to fuel mixture. Did you buy the car with the chip tuning already installed, or was it something you added later? Also, what diagnostic code are you seeing? Knowing that could help narrow things down.
