Fiat Petra air intake leak
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Fiat Petra owner reported higher fuel consumption, a persistent check engine light, and a loud hissing noise during acceleration, suspecting an air intake leak. The issue was identified as a split in the intake hose, particularly noticeable when the engine was cold. The suggested solution was to inspect the air filter and intake hose, with a recommendation to have a professional perform a smoke test for precise diagnosis. The problem was resolved by replacing the intake hose, eliminating the symptoms.

Good shout on the air filter, I did replace it recently. But the hissing is definitely louder when the engine is cold, yes. Intake hose, you say? Any specific area on the hose I should be looking at?

Yep, sounds like the intake hose to me! On my Subaru, it was a small crack on the underside of the hose, near where it connects to the engine. Hard to spot at first. Honestly, I'd just take it to a workshop if you're not comfortable replacing it yourself. They can do a smoke test and pinpoint the leak easily.

I'll check the hose more carefully, but yeah, probably best to get it properly diagnosed. It turned out to be a split in the intake hose like you said. Cost me 100€ to get it replaced at the shop, and all the problems are gone. Thanks for the help!

That sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same thing happen with my old Subaru Outback. Higher fuel consumption, check engine light, and a hissing sound. Did you check your air filter? Is it properly seated? If it's not that it may be the air intake hose. Is the hissing louder when the engine is cold?
