Fiat Petra exhaust temperature sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Fiat Petra owner experienced issues with the check engine light, reduced power, and increased fuel consumption, suspecting a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. Another owner suggested checking for exhaust leaks, as they had similar symptoms caused by a crack near an exhaust joint. The initial owner confirmed the problem was indeed a faulty sensor due to an exhaust leak, which was resolved by replacing the sensor and fixing the leak.

Exhaust leak, huh? Where exactly was the leak? Was it obvious, or did you need to get down and dirty to find it?

Wasn't obvious at first. I had to get it up on ramps and really poke around. Eventually, I found a small crack near one of the exhaust joints. Honestly, at that point, I just took it to a workshop. Figured it was better to have them sort it out properly. You might want to do the same.

Cheers. Turns out it was indeed a faulty exhaust temperature sensor due to an exhaust leak, just like you said. Got the sensor replaced and the leak sorted. Cost me 265€ all in. Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar. I've got a Fiat Petra too, though a slightly different year. Had similar symptoms a while back – check engine light, sluggish performance. Have you checked for any exhaust leaks? That was the culprit in my case.
