Fiat Petra Fault Memory Lock Active
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Fiat Petra owner encountered a 'fault memory lock active' error in the vehicle's computer system, suspecting undervoltage as the cause. Initial advice suggested checking the battery and alternator, common sources of electrical issues in these cars. Despite normal starting, a professional diagnosis was recommended to identify potential voltage drops or ECU faults. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be due to undervoltage, and the owner decided to have it professionally resolved.

Thank you for the quick response. Starting has been normal. If it's not the battery, what else could cause the undervoltage and the error?

Okay, since starting is normal, it's less likely to be the battery itself, but a voltage drop somewhere in the system. Honestly, with that error code and potential undervoltage, you're best off getting it professionally diagnosed. Could be a faulty sensor or a deeper ECU fault. Better safe than sorry and potentially frying something expensive.

Understood. I appreciate the input. I will take it to a workshop for diagnostics. It ended up costing 240€, due to undervoltage in the vehicle, as I suspected. Thank you again.

I had a similar issue with my Petra. Check your battery and alternator first. These cars are notorious for electrical gremlins. Has it been struggling to start lately?
