Fiat Petra rain light sensor fault
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Fiat Petra owner reported a rain-light sensor fault, resulting in non-functional automatic wipers, headlight control, and speedometer dimming, with lights constantly on. A potential cause identified was bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield around the sensor, leading to moisture ingress. The suggested solution was to have the sensor checked and possibly replaced by a workshop, which resolved the issue after confirming the presence of bubbles and fitting a new sensor.

Bubbles, you say? Is that a common point of failure then?

Indeed. Moisture ingress wreaks havoc with the sensor. While you could try DIY fixes, I recommend getting it checked by a workshop. They have the tools to properly diagnose and replace the sensor if needed.

Thanks for the tip. Turns out you were spot on – bubbles under the gel pad! Workshop confirmed it. New sensor fitted; cost me 62€. All sorted now.

Sounds familiar. I've got a Petra too. Did you check for bubbles forming under the gel pad of the windshield around the sensor?
