Fiat Scudo fluctuating cylinder pressure
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Fiat Scudo diesel exhibited higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, and a check engine light, with fluctuating cylinder pressure. Potential causes discussed included piston rings, turbocharger issues, or a head gasket problem. Ultimately, a workshop diagnosed a faulty sensor as the root cause, resolving the issues under warranty.

Engine knocking is minimal. I'm thinking it's more a consequential error from something else failing. What do you mean by other symptoms related to head gasket?

If it was a head gasket, you might see coolant loss, overheating, or milky oil. Given the fluctuating cylinder pressure, and that you suspect a consequential error, it's really hard to diagnose without tearing things down. Could be a lot of interconnected components at play. Best bet is probably a workshop with proper diagnostic tools.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop and you were right, it was an indirect problem. They found a faulty sensor that was causing all the other issues, including the cylinder pressure fluctuation. Repair cost 0€ under warranty!

Fluctuating cylinder pressure isn't good. Could be piston rings, spark plugs (if it had them), or maybe the turbocharger if it's got one? Could also be a head gasket issue, though those usually come with other symptoms. Are you hearing any engine knocking?
