Fiesta automatic transmission parking issue

Hey, I've got a weird issue with my 2000 Ford Fiesta, gasoline engine, 228708 km on the clock. The engine won't start in park, check engine light is always on, gearbox is slipping, and error codes are popping up. I'm thinking it might be the control unit. Anyone else run into this?

Sounds familiar. My Renault Scenic had similar issues: intermittent starting, engine warning light, and erratic gearbox. Have you checked the gear linkage or neutral position sensor? Might be worth a look.

Thanks for the quick reply! Could you give me more details about your Scenic issue? What error codes did you get, and what troubleshooting did you try before fixing it?

The main error code pointed to the transmission control module. I tried recalibrating the gear selector and checked the wiring, but no luck. Had to take it to a shop in the end. Sounds like that defective control unit is a good lead for you too. A workshop visit might be best.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I'll get it checked out at a workshop for a proper diagnosis and repairs. They've quoted around 1000€ for the control unit repair. Appreciate the help!
