Fiesta check engine light and power loss
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Ford Fiesta diesel experienced a check engine light, power loss, and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be due to an exhaust temperature sensor issue. A similar case with a Peugeot 308 revealed that an exhaust leak can affect sensor readings, causing these symptoms. A smoke test at a garage identified a leak near the sensor, leading to its replacement and repair, resolving the problem.

A leak, huh? So the sensor itself was fine? How did you pinpoint the leak?

Yeah, the sensor was actually okay. The garage used some kind of smoke test to find the tiny hole in the exhaust pipe. The mechanic said even a small leak can throw off the sensor readings. I'd take it to a workshop to get it checked properly. It’s frustrating, I know!

Thanks! Appreciate the advice. It was indeed a leak near the exhaust temperature sensor! Sensor replaced and the leak fixed, all for 265€. Runs like new again!

Dude, I had something similar happen with my old Peugeot 308! Same symptoms: check engine light, power loss, and drinking fuel like crazy. Turned out to be a leak in the exhaust system messing with the readings from the exhaust sensor. Exhaust sensors measure the temperature of the exhaust gases to ensure optimal engine management. They are exhaust components so any leaks will change temperature fluctuation readings. Worth checking!
