Fiesta ECU Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Ford Fiesta diesel was experiencing reduced engine performance and error codes, leading to concerns about a potential ECU failure. The issue was suspected to be caused by a defective main relay affecting the ECU. A proper diagnostic and system reset were suggested, but ultimately, a workshop confirmed the main relay was faulty and had damaged the ECU, which required replacement to resolve the problem.

A system reset? Is that like turning it off and on again? I mean, I disconnected the battery for a while, but that didn't fix it. What exactly do you mean, and would that really fry the ECU?

Disconnecting the battery is not enough. By system reset, I'm talking about a proper car diagnostic, reading the error memory and then resetting the system with a diagnostic tool. However, if the main relay is defective and caused the ECU to fail, a reset won't help much. To be safe, get it to a workshop.

Turns out you were spot on! Took it to a shop, they said the main relay was indeed faulty, fried the ECU. 120€ later, the Fiesta is purring like a kitten. Thanks a bunch for the heads-up!

Sounds familiar. I had something similar happen in my Fiesta. Reduced power and error codes. Could be a defective main relay messing with the ECU. Have you tried a system reset after reading the error memory?
