Fiesta heavy steering
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Ford Fiesta with a gasoline engine is experiencing heavy steering and steering wheel vibrations, suggesting a potential power steering failure. The issue is suspected to be related to the steering angle sensor, possibly due to bad coding. A similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the sensor, and a diagnostic confirmed the faulty coding in the Fiesta's sensor, leading to its replacement and wheel alignment as a solution.

Thanks! Was your sensor issue intermittent at first? And did a diagnostic pinpoint the sensor, or was it more ruling things out?

Yeah, it was intermittent at first, which made it tricky. The sensor wasn't obviously the problem right away. But it gradually got worse, and the diagnostic readings started showing weird steering angle data, which led to replacing the sensor. Considering your Fiesta's age and mileage, a workshop visit might be a good call to check that sensor.

Thanks for the advice. I got the Fiesta checked out. The diagnostic confirmed the steering angle sensor had faulty coding, so I had to replace it and get the wheels aligned. Cost me 195€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had something similar with my Ford Focus, different setup though. Heavy steering and vibrations sound like what I went through. I thought it was alignment at first, but it ended up being the angle sensor. Have you thought about just replacing the sensor?
