Fiesta transmission grinding noise

Guys, I'm having major issues with my 2008 Ford Fiesta diesel. I've done 176826 km and now the check engine light keeps popping on, along with the transmission light. It feels like the gears are slipping, and sometimes I even hear a nasty grinding noise when it shifts. I ran a scan, and it's showing an error in the error memory. Thinking it might be the torque converter lock-up clutch maybe being defective?

Hi there, I had a similar issue with my Fiesta's automatic transmission. Was the grinding particularly bad when the engine seemed to surge unexpectedly? If so, it could indeed be the torque converter acting up.

Yeah, that sounds about right! The engine does surge sometimes when it grinds. How did you sort it out? Was it definitely the torque converter?

Based on your symptoms and the error code, it strongly points to the torque converter. In my case, it was diagnosed as a defective automatic transmission converter. I'd suggest taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper inspection and diagnosis. They can confirm whether it's the converter and give you a quote for the repair.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – the torque converter was indeed buggered. Cost me 2120€ to fix but it's running smoothly again now. Appreciate the help!
