Fiesta Transmission Problems

I'm having transmission problems with my 2001 Ford Fiesta, gasoline engine. It's got about 105000 km on the clock. The paddle shifters are unresponsive, and the gearbox is slipping and shifting roughly. I'm also hearing grinding noises when it changes gears. Sometimes the paddles have a really slow reaction time before anything happens. Plus, the gearbox has gone into emergency mode a couple of times, and there's an error code stored. I'm thinking it might be the transmission control unit, but I'm not sure. Has anyone had a similar issue?

Sounds rough. I had similar symptoms with my old Renault Megane, though it was a few years newer. Paddle shifters went haywire, and the gear changes felt like they were being done with a sledgehammer. An ECU problem was suspected.

Interesting. Was it definitely the ECU in your case? Did it cause the gearbox to go into emergency mode as well?

Yep, that was the culprit. The emergency mode was triggered by the faulty ECU readings. Best to get it checked at a workshop, they can pinpoint it properly.

Thanks for the info! I took it to a workshop. Turns out it was indeed the transmission control unit. Cost me about 1000€ to get sorted, but at least it's running smoothly again now.
