Figo DPF Exhaust Pressure Too Low

I have a 2012 Ford Figo diesel with 165336 km. There's a warning light, reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell. The error code indicates low diesel particulate filter exhaust pressure. Could this be a defective exhaust back pressure sensor, or are there other potential factors?

Summary of the thread

A 2012 Ford Figo diesel with 165336 km is experiencing a warning light, reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell, with an error code indicating low diesel particulate filter (DPF) exhaust pressure. The core problem could be a defective exhaust back pressure sensor, which is a common failure point and can prevent proper DPF regeneration. Checking for exhaust leaks before the DPF is also advised, but replacing the sensor resolved the issue in this case.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Low DPF exhaust pressure, eh? I had something similar on my Figo. Same symptoms, limp mode and all. Is it struggling to do DPF regeneration? Because if the back pressure sensor is shot, the ECU won't know when to start the burn cycle. Have you checked for any obvious exhaust leaks before the DPF?

I haven't specifically checked for exhaust leaks prior to the DPF, but I will. When you experienced similar issues with your Figo, did the diagnostic assessment also point towards a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor? I am trying to ascertain whether this is a common failure point.

Yep, the sensor was the culprit in my case. Symptoms lined up exactly. I'd still check for leaks, but honestly, with those kilometers, the sensor is a likely suspect. Save yourself the headache and get it checked at a workshop. Could be other things, but sounds very familiar.

I appreciate you sharing your experience. It appears prudent to proceed with a professional assessment. I took your advice and went to the workshop; indeed, it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. Repair cost was 245€. Thank you again for the guidance.
