Figo Rough Running Exhaust Smell

I've got a perplexing issue with my 2020 Ford Figo, gasoline engine, 168823 km. The check engine light is on, the engine is running rough, there's a noticeable exhaust leak, and a strong exhaust smell. I suspect an exhaust treatment malfunction. I'm leaning towards a defective lambda sensor, but I'd like your insights. I've checked for damage to the catalytic converter and EGR valve, but found nothing. I know DEF fluid or NOx sensors can cause similar issues, but those are usually on diesels.

Hey, I had something similar happen with my Figo. Check engine light, the whole shebang. It could be the oxygen sensor. Are you losing power too?

Thanks for the response. Did you also observe a strong exhaust smell and rough engine running, in addition to the check engine light? If it was indeed the oxygen sensor, did replacing it resolve all the symptoms?

Yep, that's exactly what I had. Exhaust smell was awful, and it ran rough. I'd take it to a workshop to be sure, but it does sound like the oxygen sensor to me.

Based on your experience and the symptoms, I agree a workshop visit is warranted. It seems probable the lambda sensor is the problem and needs replacing. I took the car to the shop, and it was exactly that - a defective lambda sensor, which was replaced for 375€. The car is now running smoothly again.
