FiveHundred audio system failure

My 2006 Ford FiveHundred with a gasoline engine has no audio output at all. USB doesn't work either. I suspect the bass speaker is gone, as I've noticed sound distortion recently, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone else had a similar issue with their factory speakers?

I had a similar issue with my FiveHundred, although I can't remember if it was the exact same symptoms. I recall that the audio connectivity was finicky from day one, and I had crackling and humming sounds at times. Have you checked the fuses related to the audio system? It might be something simple like that.

Yeah, I checked the fuses - that was the first thing I did! All the fuses related to the radio and amplifier seem to be fine. When you had this sound quality problem, was it the USB audio too, or just the regular radio? Did you just replace the speakers and that fixed it?

It was happening with both the radio and the USB audio. Ultimately, I never got to the bottom of it myself. I took it to a workshop, they checked the car speakers and the wiring, and told me that the main unit needed replacing. I’d suggest you do the same and avoid replacing the speakers yourself if the problem lies somewhere else.

Thanks for the suggestion. I took it to my local mechanic, and they found a defective bass speaker. The eventual repair cost was 280€. I'm just glad it's sorted!
