FiveHundred Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Ford FiveHundred owner is experiencing issues with the engine oil temperature sensor, indicated by a warning light and error codes. The problem is suspected to be a faulty sensor or a defective cable or plug connection. Another individual with a similar experience found that a corroded connector on the sensor was the cause, which required professional replacement of both the connector and sensor. The suggested solution is to have a professional inspect and possibly replace the sensor and connector to prevent further engine damage.

That's interesting! It does seem to happen more often after the engine warms up, maybe after about 20-30 minutes of driving. Coolant levels are stable, so I don't think there's a leak or anything like that. You mentioned it was a similar issue for you - did you ever figure out what the problem was exactly, and what was needed to fix it?

Yeah, the warm engine thing seals it, I think. In my case, it turned out to be a corroded connector on the oil temperature sensor. Moisture had gotten in there and messed everything up. I tried cleaning it myself, but it only helped for a little while. Eventually, I had to bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They replaced the connector and the sensor itself, just to be sure. Honestly, unless you're super confident with electrical work and have the right tools, I'd recommend getting a professional to take a look. It's not worth risking further damage to your engine. Cost me about 95€ all in.

Thanks so much for the information! It sounds like a trip to the workshop is in order. I appreciate you sharing your experience; it definitely gives me a better idea of what to expect. I'll post a resolution once I get it sorted out. It's most likely the cable or plug connection of the component defective, as you said. I'm glad to hear it wasn't anything more serious! Thank you, again!

Whoa, that sounds eerily familiar! I had almost the exact same symptoms in my FiveHundred a few months back. Engine oil temp light, error codes... the whole shebang! Did you happen to notice if it happens more often after the engine's been running for a while, or is it pretty consistent from the get-go? And just curious, are you losing any coolant? Trying to narrow down if it's purely electrical or if there might be some other gremlins lurking around.
