FiveHundred Fuel Pressure Issue

I'm ready to pull my hair out! My 2005 Ford FiveHundred with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. I think my fuel pressure regulator is toast. The check engine light is on, the engine stalls at idle sometimes, and I've noticed reduced engine power. It all started after I changed the fuel filter myself. I suspect an entry error there. Could there be air in the fuel rail messing with the pressure sensor? Has anyone else run into this fuel system nightmare?

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a 2005 Ford FiveHundred experiencing fuel pressure issues, including a check engine light, engine stalling, and reduced power. The problem began after a fuel filter change, leading to suspicions of a faulty fuel pressure regulator or air in the fuel rail affecting the pressure sensor. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the fuel pressure regulator, suggesting that professional diagnosis and repair might be the best course of action.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I also own a FiveHundred, and I had similar issues not too long ago. Check engine light, stalling, the whole shebang. Did you happen to notice if the pressure drop was gradual or sudden when the engine stalled?

Thanks for chiming in! The pressure drop seemed pretty sudden when it stalled. Like, bam, engine just quits. Does that line up with what you experienced? Was it indeed the fuel pressure regulator for you? And if so, how much did it set you back?

Yep, sudden drop is exactly what I saw. Honestly, after messing with it for a day, I threw in the towel and took it to a shop. Best 45€ I ever spent. They confirmed it was the regulator, swapped it out, and all was well. Save yourself the headache and just get it checked. Trust me on this one.

You know what, you're probably right. I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty, but I don't want to throw parts at it. I'll bite the bullet and take it in. Thanks for sharing your experience, saved me time and money!
