FiveHundred windshield wipers not working

I've got a perplexing issue with my 2004 Ford FiveHundred with a gasoline engine. The windshield wipers have stopped working. Diagnostics showed an error. Could a defective cable or plug connection be the problem, or are there other failure points to consider before repairs?

Honestly, if you're getting an error code and the wipers are completely dead, it might be best to take it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and give you a real answer. Saved me a lot of time and headache.
