FJCruiser bumper antenna issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Toyota FJCruiser is experiencing issues with the bumper antenna, affecting the unlocking/locking system and requiring the key to be physically in the ignition to start the engine. The problem is suspected to be caused by a defective cable or plug connection. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the antenna module. Upon visiting a workshop, it was confirmed that a defective cable at the bumper antenna was indeed the cause, and the issue was resolved.

That's interesting. I hadn't considered multiple antennas. I'll have to look into that. Were your symptoms exactly the same, and did you eventually get to the root cause yourself?

Yep, pretty much the same. It started intermittently and gradually got worse. Honestly, I just took it to a shop. Diagnosing RF interference issues without the proper gear is a nightmare. In the end, they replaced the antenna module.

Thanks for the insight. I appreciate you sharing your experience. Following your suggestion, I visited a workshop, and it turned out to be a defective cable at the bumper antenna, as suspected. The repair cost was 95€.

That sounds suspiciously similar to what happened with my old BMW 3 series. The comfort access system went haywire, and it turned out to be a faulty antenna connection in the bumper. Does the FJCruiser have multiple antennas?
