FJCruiser engine running unevenly

Hi, I have a 2018 Toyota FJCruiser with a gasoline engine and 37685 km on the clock. Recently, the engine has started running unevenly. The check engine light is on, and the error memory has a stored error. It also feels like the car is jerking when accelerating. Could this be related to a dirty air filter or maybe the spark plugs need replacing?

I had a similar issue with my FJCruiser. Check your O2 sensor readings. A faulty oxygen sensor can cause the engine to run rough and trigger the check engine light. It might also be worth inspecting the fuel injectors.

Thanks for the quick reply! Where exactly is the oxygen sensor located? And is there a way to check them myself, or should I leave that to a professional?

There are typically two O2 sensors, one before and one after the catalytic converter. Testing them requires a scan tool to read the live data. Given the symptoms you describe, it is best to have a workshop inspect the exhaust system for leaks and check the sensor readings.
