FJCruiser Parking Brake Issue

Alright FJCruiser fanatics, I'm pulling my hair out! My 2012 FJCruiser (gasoline engine, naturally) has developed a nasty parking brake issue. The electronic handbrake is completely unresponsive. I've got an error stored in the ECU, and the brake warning light is mocking me from the dash. My code reader is pointing towards the electric motor in the brake caliper being the likely culprit. Anyone else encountered this gremlin?

Sounds familiar. Have you checked the wiring harness and connections to the caliper? Corrosion or a loose connection can sometimes mimic a motor failure. Also, what's the exact error code you're pulling? That could narrow things down significantly.

Good shout on the wiring, hadn't dug that deep yet. The error code is C1345 - Motor Circuit Open. I'm assuming this is pointing me back to the electric motor inside the caliper.

C1345 pretty much confirms it. An open circuit on the motor points directly at a faulty motor, or possibly, but less likely, a break in the internal wiring within the caliper. Given the mileage, the motor is the prime suspect. I'd recommend getting it checked at a reputable workshop, replacing brake parts without proper validation can cause vehicle safety issues.

Thanks for the confirmation. I was hoping it was something simpler, but I suspected the motor was toast. Booked it in at the shop; 505€ quoted for the repair. Appreciate the input!
