FJCruiser starting issue

I'm having a weird issue with my 2018 Toyota FJCruiser with a gasoline engine. It's got about 84k km on it. Lately, it's been struggling to start, like the battery is super weak. I had a mechanic check it and he mentioned something about 'Terminal 30 continuous plus interrupted'. I have no idea what that even means! Could it be a fuse or some kind of wiring problem? Any ideas?

Hey there! I have a FJCruiser too, though mine is a bit older. I had a similar problem a while back. The 'Terminal 30' thing sounds like it could be a power supply issue. Have you checked the battery terminals for corrosion? Sometimes a bad connection can cause those kinds of intermittent problems. It's like trying to drink from a straw with a hole in it - you get some, but not enough!

Thanks for the tip! I did check the battery terminals and they seemed clean, but maybe I should give them another scrub. When you had this problem, did it completely prevent the car from starting, or was it just a slow crank? Also, what did the repair end up costing you? Just trying to get a sense of what I might be in for.

In my case, it was mostly a slow crank, but eventually it wouldn't start at all. I tried cleaning everything myself but it didn't fix the issue. In the end, I had to take it to a workshop. It's probably best to let the pros handle it, since it's electrical and could be risky to mess with.

Okay, thanks so much for sharing your experience! It sounds like I'm heading for a similar outcome. I'll take it to a trusted mechanic tomorrow. They ran a diagnostic and it turned out the battery was heavily discharged and defective. The estimated repair cost is 290€. I really appreciate the help!
