Flashing CEL & Stalling: Fuel Rail Sensor Symptoms

My check engine light started flashing and the engine keeps stalling, especially at idle. Car also feels sluggish with reduced power. Pretty sure its related to fuel rail pressure sensor issues. My car reads like its getting wrong pressure signals. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Looking for advice before heading back to a mechanic since my last visit wasnt great. Running a 2013 Chrysler Voyager diesel with 54291km on the clock.

Had the exact same symptoms on my 2010 Chrysler Grand Cherokee diesel. The engine stalling and power loss turned out to be directly linked to a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor. The engine performance was seriously compromised because the sensor was sending incorrect readings to the ECU. The fuel injection system relies heavily on accurate pressure readings to maintain proper engine operation. When the sensor fails, the ECU receives wrong data about fuel pressure, causing irregular fuel delivery. This creates the stalling at idle and sluggish acceleration you described. My repair required replacing both the fuel rail pressure sensor and cleaning the fuel injectors since debris had accumulated due to irregular fuel flow. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention because continued driving risked additional damage to the fuel injection system. The check engine light flashing typically indicates a severe problem that could cause catalytic converter damage if left unaddressed. Based on these matching symptoms, recommend getting it checked immediately at a shop that specializes in diesel fuel systems.

Thanks for sharing your Grand Cherokee experience. This exactly mirrors what my Voyager was doing and getting the fuel rail pressure sensor fixed was definitely the right call. The engine performance went back to normal right after. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the repair cost you? Also wondering if you had any similar fuel system problems show up since getting it fixed?

Really glad to hear your Voyager's rail pressure sensor issue got resolved. On my Grand Cherokee, the total repair came to 240€ for the complete fix of the defective pressure sensor. The mechanic got the signal fault sorted and the engine has been running perfectly since then. The fuel injection system has been working flawlessly for the past two years with no recurring issues. Getting that faulty sensor replaced was definitely worth every cent since proper fuel rail pressure readings are crucial for optimal engine performance. If your check engine light stays off and the power delivery remains smooth, sounds like they did a thorough job fixing the pressure sensor. Just keep an eye on fuel consumption patterns, any sudden changes could indicate developing fuel system issues.

I took my Voyager to a certified diesel specialist after getting your helpful advice. The total repair came to 280€, slightly more than yours but worth every cent. The mechanic confirmed the fuel rail pressure sensor was failing and replaced it right away. The engine stalling completely stopped and power delivery is back to normal. The fuel injection system is working perfectly now and the check engine light hasnt come back on. Fuel consumption is also stable, showing the pressure sensor replacement fixed the root cause. Best decision was switching to a shop specializing in diesel engines rather than going back to my regular mechanic. They diagnosed the issue quickly and got it sorted in one visit. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me avoid potentially bigger problems down the road.
