Flex active grille shutter issue

Hey, I'm having an issue with my 2017 Ford Flex (gasoline engine). The check engine light keeps coming on, and I've noticed the engine seems to be running hotter than usual. I suspect an active air flap fault, potentially an electromechanical issue. Anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2017 Ford Flex involves the check engine light and the engine running hotter than usual, suspected to be due to a fault in the active grille shutter. The problem is identified as a defective electromechanical component within the active grille shutter system. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle inspected and repaired by a professional, which was confirmed necessary and resulted in a repair cost.

Air flap fault? Is the engine actually overheating, or just running a little hotter than normal? I'd get it checked out soon if the light's on.

Yeah, it's definitely overheating. The temperature gauge is higher than usual. Any idea what the root cause could be?

If it's overheating, and you think it's the air flaps, then yeah, sounds like something's gone wrong with them. Probably best to get it looked at by a professional before it gets worse.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were right – defective electromechanism in the active grille shutter. Cost me 590€ to fix. Appreciate the help!
