Flickering lights and warning light in Benz Viano 2005 - software error?

Hi folks, I have a problem with my Benz Viano, built in 2005, petrol engine and with around 66,075 km on the clock. The lights are flickering or getting dimmer and I constantly have a warning light on the speedometer. Somehow I have the feeling that something is wrong with the software in the vehicle. Have any of you had similar experiences? How did it go at the mechanic? After my last visit to the garage, I don't really trust them anymore... Thanks for your help.

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Benz Viano owner is experiencing flickering lights and a persistent warning light on the speedometer, suspecting a software error. A similar issue was shared by another person with a 2008 Benz Sprinter, where the problem was traced to a faulty engine control unit, requiring replacement and software fixes. The suggested solution involves checking the engine control unit and possibly replacing it to resolve the issue.

Hey, I know this. I had similar problems with my 2008 Benz Sprinter. The warning light kept coming on and the lights were weird too. At first I thought it was just a minor issue. But then the mechanic told me the engine control unit was faulty. It was a really serious problem. I had to have the unit completely replaced. It was quite a procedure, but afterwards it ran like new again. Hope you come out of it okay, buddy.

Hey, thanks for your answer. Your experience sounds really unpleasant. Can you remember how much you had to pay for the repair? And have you had any problems with your car since then? Thanks to you.

Hey, no problem, I'm happy to help. The repair to the engine control unit cost me around €1000. Since then, however, I haven't had any more problems, Puhhh. The mechanic also managed to fix the vehicle's installed software, which was somehow faulty. So it was expensive fun, but the car ran smoothly again afterwards. Hope it doesn't get any more expensive for you either, buddy.

Hey, thanks for the detailed breakdown. Seems like I'm in for a pretty expensive repair.... But if you haven't had any other problems since, then it'll probably be best to just tackle it. Better to dig into your pocket now than have more trouble later. Thanks again for your help!

How do I register a new battery in a 2016 Mercedes S550?

To register a new battery in a 2016 Mercedes S550, you'll need a scan tool that can access the battery control module. Here are the steps: 1. Connect the scan tool to the OBD-II port under the dashboard. 2. Turn on the ignition but don't start the engine. 3. Navigate to the battery control module using the scan tool. 4. Select the option to register a new battery. Please note that not all scan tools have this capability. If you don't have access to such a tool, you may need to visit a mechanic or a dealership to have the battery registered. Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions.
