Fluence active air flap fault

I'm freaking out. I've got a 2010 Renault Fluence, diesel engine, and the check engine light just popped on. Noticed the engine's been running hotter than usual, almost overheating! A code reader shows an 'active air flap fault'. Anyone else had this happen? What is an active air flap?

I also have a Fluence with the same diesel engine and had something similar happen last year. Check engine light, running hot... sound familiar? It was a pain. Does it happen more at lower speeds or when you're giving it some welly on the motorway?

Thanks for replying, yeah it's happening regardless of speed, town driving or motorway. How did you fix it? Do you know what part was the issue?

Mine was mainly at lower speeds, it got pretty bad in city traffic. I ended up taking it to a workshop, they told me the electromechanism was defective, causing the air flaps not to open correctly and restricting air intake. If it happens at all speeds in your case, I suggest you do the same, as it sounds like it could be a more serious issue. My repair was 590€ in the end, good luck!

Thanks so much for the info! Sounds like I'm headed to the shop then... hopefully it's not too pricey. Just got a quote of 590€ which is not ideal but at least I know what the issue is. Appreciate you sharing your experience!
