Fluence diesel engine cutting out low power

I'm having a real headache with my 2015 Renault Fluence diesel. It's got 201265 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, and the engine keeps cutting out at idle, plus the power is way down. Feels like I'm driving with half the horses I used to have! I've checked the usual suspects, like air filter and MAF sensor, but no luck. Could this be a fuel injection issue? Any ideas?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Fluence. Check your fuel volume regulator. It's like the conductor of the fuel orchestra – if it's off, the whole thing sounds terrible.

Interesting! Where exactly is that located, and how would I check it? Is it something I can do myself, or am I looking at a trip to the mechanic? Could a faulty high pressure pump cause the same symptoms, because that's what I'm starting to suspect?

Yes, a defective high pressure pump would explain it all. A faulty high pressure pump will also cause the fuel volume regulator to fail. Unless you have the tools, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop, better safe than sorry. I recall something about 1500€ when mine went kaput.

Thanks a lot! I took it to the shop, and you nailed it – fuel volume regulator defective, caused by a defective high pressure pump. They quoted me 1510€ for the repair. Ouch! But at least I know what's wrong. Really appreciate the help!
