Interesting! Where exactly is that located, and how would I check it? Is it something I can do myself, or am I looking at a trip to the mechanic? Could a faulty high pressure pump cause the same symptoms, because that's what I'm starting to suspect?

Yes, a defective high pressure pump would explain it all. A faulty high pressure pump will also cause the fuel volume regulator to fail. Unless you have the tools, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop, better safe than sorry. I recall something about 1500€ when mine went kaput.

Thanks a lot! I took it to the shop, and you nailed it – fuel volume regulator defective, caused by a defective high pressure pump. They quoted me 1510€ for the repair. Ouch! But at least I know what's wrong. Really appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Fluence. Check your fuel volume regulator. It's like the conductor of the fuel orchestra – if it's off, the whole thing sounds terrible.
