Fluence oil pump failure

My 2013 Renault Fluence (gasoline engine) is giving me grief. 158408 km on the clock. The oil pressure light keeps coming on, and there's a nasty mechanical noise from the engine. Suspect the oil pump, but not sure. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds rough. I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot 308, different engine, but same symptoms: oil pressure light and engine knocking. First thing I'd check is for any oil leakage. Have you checked your engine oil level and condition? And when was the last time you changed your oil filter? Could be something simple like a clogged filter restricting flow.

Oil level is fine, no obvious leaks. Oil and filter were changed maybe 5000 km ago. Could a faulty oil pressure sensor cause those symptoms? Or am I chasing ghosts here?

Could be the sensor, yeah, but the loud mechanical noises point more towards actual low oil pressure. When my Peugeot did that, the sensor was fine. Sadly, it turned out to be oil pump failure, which then damaged the engine bearings. Get it checked out properly ASAP, or you might end up with a much bigger bill.

Took it to the workshop. Turns out it was the oil pump. They're quoting 755€ for the repair. Ouch.
