Focus diesel crankcase issue
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Ford Focus diesel is experiencing a check engine light, reduced power, and excessive smoke, leading to a suspicion of a faulty crankcase ventilation valve. These symptoms could indeed be caused by a defective crankcase ventilation system, as it can lead to oil burning and grey smoke. The issue was confirmed by a workshop, and the solution involves replacing the faulty valve.

Thanks! I haven't spotted any obvious leaks, but I'll look again. The smoke is more greyish. What was the problem with your Megane? Was it the crankcase valve, and how did you sort it?

Yep, it was the crankcase valve in the end. The grey smoke could mean oil is getting burned, which points towards crankcase issues. I'd say get it checked by a pro, to be on the safe side. It's not worth risking further damage.

Appreciate the advice! I've booked it in with a local workshop. They confirmed it was a faulty crankcase ventilation valve. It's set to cost me around 360€ with parts and labor. Hopefully, that'll be the end of it!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, although it wasn't quite the same symptoms. Did you check for any leaks around the crankcase? That was a dead giveaway for me. Is the smoke blue-ish, by any chance?
