Focus Diesel Jerking and Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Ford Focus diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, power loss, stalling at idle, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell. These symptoms, along with stored error codes, suggest a potential issue with the intake manifold, possibly due to pressure irregularities or a vacuum leak. It is recommended to have the vehicle professionally diagnosed to confirm the cause and resolve the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'll check the exact error codes again, but I think I remember something about manifold pressure being mentioned. How did you eventually resolve your issue? Was it definitely the intake manifold?

Yes, after further investigation, it was confirmed to be a leaking intake manifold due to scorching. Considering the stored errors and the correlation with the symptoms you described, I suggest consulting with a trusted workshop. It's better to have it professionally diagnosed. I ended up paying around 1180€ for parts and labor but it resolved the problem completely.

Greetings, fellow Focus owner. While I do not own a 2018 model, your symptoms sound familiar to an intake manifold issue I had. Were there any mentions of manifold pressure irregularities or a vacuum leak in the error codes? Any chance of a gasket leak, perhaps leading to engine misfires?
