Focus Electric Coding Error

Alright, I'm stumped! Got a 2015 Ford Focus Electric with 109328 km on the clock. Recently, a fault code popped up. I'm getting error messages both in the infotainment system AND on the speedometer – super annoying! I plugged in my cheapo diagnostic scanner, and it points to some kind of coding error. Anyone seen this before? It's driving me nuts!

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Ford Focus Electric displayed error messages on both the infotainment system and speedometer, with a diagnostic scanner indicating a coding error related to 'incorrect vehicle configuration.' The issue persisted despite attempts to clear the code. It was suggested that the problem might require professional attention, as it could involve a deeper coding issue. Ultimately, the vehicle was taken to a workshop specializing in electric vehicles, where the coding was re-flashed, resolving the errors.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there! That sounds like a real pain. When you say 'coding error,' does your scanner give you a specific code? Sometimes those generic scanners aren't super helpful. Also, has anything else been going on with the car lately? Any recent repairs or software changes, even seemingly unrelated ones? It could give us a clue as to why the error appeared in the first place. Have you tried clearing the code to see if it returns?

Good questions! The scanner gave me a code, but it was pretty vague, something like 'incorrect vehicle configuration' – not exactly illuminating! I cleared it, and it came right back after a short drive. And no, no recent repairs or changes that I know of. Could the battery be involved?

Okay, 'incorrect vehicle configuration' is a bit worrying. It does sound like a coding issue, especially since it reappears so quickly. I doubt the battery is the root cause, though a weak 12V could potentially cause weird electronic glitches, it's unlikely to trigger that specific error. Honestly, at this point, with a recurring config error, it's probably best to take it to a workshop that specializes in electric vehicles, because they will have the Ford specific diagnostic tools to get to the root cause of the issue. They can recode the car properly if that's the problem.

Thanks a bunch! I was hoping it wouldn't come to that, but you're probably right. I bit the bullet and took it to the shop. Turns out the vehicle coding was messed up somehow. They re-flashed it, and the errors are gone! Cost me 360€, but at least it's fixed. Appreciate the advice!
