Focus throttle valve issue

Hey, I've got a 2009 Ford Focus with a gasoline engine. It's got about 80000 km on it, and I think the throttle valve might be bad. I'm getting worse fuel economy and it's harder to start. Could it be the accelerator pedal module?

Summary of the thread

A 2009 Ford Focus owner suspects a throttle valve issue due to worsening fuel economy and difficulty starting. The problem might also be linked to the accelerator pedal module. Another owner suggests that the symptoms, including hesitant engine response, could be due to a faulty throttle position sensor. The recommendation is to have the vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic to accurately diagnose and address the issue.

I have a Focus too. Sounds familiar! Increased fuel consumption can be a real headache. Have you noticed any changes in how your engine responds when you press the accelerator? Is it smooth, or does it feel jerky, like a hesitant tap dancer?

The engine response isn't as smooth as it used to be. It feels hesitant. Have you had similar symptoms? What was the diagnosis and how did you fix it?

Yup, the hesitant tap dancer is never a good sign. I'd bet it's the throttle position sensor acting up - kind of like a dimmer switch that's gone bad. While it could be the pedal module, I'd strongly recommend getting it checked out at a reliable workshop. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks, I'll take it to a mechanic to get it checked out. The estimated repair cost will be 205€.
