Focus Windshield Wipers Not Working

Hi, I'm having a really annoying problem with my 2001 Ford Focus diesel. The windshield wipers have completely stopped working. I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. Also, I hooked it up to a diagnostic tool and it's showing an error related to the wiper motor circuit. Given the error code and the wipers not moving at all, I'm suspecting either a faulty wiper switch or maybe a break in the wiring harness somewhere. Has anyone else experienced something similar with their Focus?

Hey, I had a similar issue with my Focus - wipers just quit. Check the wiring harness where it goes into the steering column. The constant movement can sometimes cause the wires to fray or the plug to come loose. Also, I would check the switch itself.

Thanks for the tip! When you say "check the switch", do you mean visually inspect it, or is there a way to test it with a multimeter or something? And did your error code also point to the wiper motor circuit? I'm trying to narrow down whether it's the switch, the wiring, or the motor itself.

I just visually inspected it. I did not want to mess around with testing it. And yes, the error code was related to the wiper motor circuit, so it does sound similar. If you are not comfortable checking the switch or the wiring harness yourself, I'd recommend having a workshop take a look. It might save you a lot of time and headache.

Thanks! Based on your experience and the likely cause identified elsewhere (defective cable or plug connection), I decided to take it to a local workshop. They confirmed it was indeed a faulty connection in the wiring harness near the steering column. Repair came out to about 95€, so not too bad all things considered. Really appreciate your help!
