Ford BMAX engine stalling idling

I've got a 2014 Ford BMAX, gasoline engine, with about 64827 km. Recently, the check engine light came on, and the error memory has an entry. The engine also stalls sometimes when idling, especially when cold. I'm suspecting something related to the air intake, but I'm not sure where to start.

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Ford BMAX with a gasoline engine was experiencing stalling when idling, particularly when cold, and the check engine light was on. The suspected issue was related to the air intake. A suggestion was made to check the idle air control (IAC) valve, as a similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by addressing a faulty IAC valve and a dirty intake. The owner took the car to a garage, where the IAC valve was replaced and the intake cleaned, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds frustrating. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra. The symptoms were almost identical: engine light, error codes, and stalling at idle. For me, it turned out to be a faulty IAC valve due to a really dirty intake. Have you checked the air valve or considered that it might be clogged up?

Thanks for the tip! IAC valve... I'm not super familiar with that. Is it difficult to get to on the BMAX? And how would I know if it's actually the problem before replacing it?

Finding it can be a pain, it was on my Astra. Honestly, without proper tools or experience, it's tough to diagnose for sure. Given the stalling and error codes, plus the mileage, the intake being heavily contaminated is a strong possibility. If you're not comfortable tackling it yourself, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the issue and give you a quote before doing any work.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on. It was indeed a bad idle air control valve and a filthy intake. They replaced the valve and cleaned everything up. Cost me around 425€, but the car is running smoothly again. Appreciate the help!
