Ford C Max 2007: inexplicable engine problems and increased fuel consumption

Hi guys, I urgently need your help. I drive a 2007 Ford C Max, gasoline engine and now have 68230 km on the clock. I've been having a few problems for a while now. The check engine light is constantly flashing, the engine just stops, has hardly any power, runs unevenly, jerks when accelerating and also eats up more fuel than usual. I suspect that it could possibly be the throttle potentiometer. I haven't had such great experiences with my garage recently and want to find out more beforehand. Have any of you had similar symptoms and could help me? How was your visit to the workshop afterwards? I'm grateful for any information! Thanks and best regards!

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Ford C Max is experiencing engine problems, including a flashing check engine light, engine stalling, lack of power, uneven running, jerking during acceleration, and increased fuel consumption. The suspected cause is a faulty throttle potentiometer. A similar issue in a 2010 Ford Focus was resolved by replacing the throttle valve mechanism, which improved performance and fuel efficiency. It is advised to have the car checked by a garage to confirm the diagnosis and proceed with necessary repairs.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, I actually had pretty much the same symptoms with my 2010 Ford Focus, gasoline engine. The check engine light started flashing, the engine was running rough and fuel consumption shot up. In my case, it ended with a defective internal throttle valve mechanism. The workshop had to replace the entire throttle valve as it was not possible to repair it. The diagnosis took some time, as they first had to rule out other possible causes. So yes, it could well be that the throttle potentiometer is the problem. It was definitely a serious problem and had a significant impact on the car's performance and fuel consumption. So my advice is to take the car to the garage and get it checked out. Good luck with that, hope it helps you! Greetings!

Hi, thanks for your reply, that sounds pretty similar to my problem. Do you remember how much you had to pay for the repair back then? And has everything worked properly since then or have any other problems occurred? Thank you and best regards!

Hey, after the mechanic got to work, everything is running smoothly again. The fault with the throttle potentiometer was rectified and the car is running like a dream again. The cost of repairing the internal mechanics of the throttle valve was €345. That was quite a lot of money, but everything has been tiptop ever since. No further problems have occurred. Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the info, that really helps me out! It sounds like it's worth the money to get the car fixed. I will take it to the garage and have the throttle potentiometer looked at. Thanks for your help, the important thing is that everything runs again afterwards. Best regards!
