Ford Edge Crankshaft Sensor Issue

My 2006 Ford Edge with a gasoline engine has a check engine light, reduced power and increased fuel consumption at 90430 kilometers. The error code indicates a crankshaft to camshaft reference value issue. I suspect a defective crankshaft sensor or the timing chain. Any insights?

Those symptoms point to a crankshaft sensor issue, especially with that error code. Before looking at the timing chain, focus on the crank sensor. Have you checked the sensor and wiring for damage like frayed wires or corrosion? What's the specific error code?

I visually inspected the crankshaft sensor and wiring and saw no physical damage. The error code is P0335, for the crankshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction. Should I replace the crankshaft sensor, or do more diagnostics first?

Given the P0335 error code and your inspection, a faulty crankshaft sensor is likely. You could use an oscilloscope, but that might cost as much as replacing the sensor. With the age of your Edge, a new sensor is a good idea. Have a workshop handle it to ensure proper installation and double-check the timing.

I took it to a workshop. The crankshaft sensor was defective and was replaced for 340€. The engine runs smoothly now, and the check engine light is off. Thanks for the help!
