Ford Eseries ECU Malfunction

I'm facing a perplexing issue with my 2003 Ford E-Series diesel, which has clocked 236244 km. The engine control unit seems to be playing up. I'm experiencing reduced engine power, and the error memory is storing fault codes. Could a defective main relay be the culprit, perhaps causing erratic behavior in the ECU?

I had similar symptoms on my old BMW 5 series. Have you checked the power supply to the ECU itself? Is it stable or fluctuating? Could it be a grounding issue?

Interesting. Fluctuating power supply, you say? Where exactly on the ECU did you measure this? Was your BMW also throwing similar error codes related to engine performance?

Yes, the BMW had similar engine performance errors. I measured the voltage at the ECU connector. It turned out to be an intermittent relay failure. Given your symptoms and the age of your vehicle, I'd say it's worth getting it checked by a workshop.

Thank you for the insight. Indeed, you were spot on. It was the main relay, causing the ECU to malfunction. A replacement cost me 120€, and everything is running smoothly again.
